Richard Cowdrey is a New York Times bestselling Illustrator, Fine Artist, Author, Speaker, and Educator (and in his heart, a Farmer).

From Cincinnati Ohio, Richard’s deep faith in God and love of God’s creation, coupled with an ability to take direction and having a variety of “styles”, make him a special type of visual communicator. Richard sees his vocation as an opportunity to serve the clients he works with, ultimately being their hands in collaborating to create pieces that fulfill the objective.
In 1978 Richard left Cincinnati for Columbus College of Art & Design, graduating in 1981. After a short stint at Hallmark Greeting Cards in Kansa City, MO, he went out on his own beginning a nearly 40-year career as a freelance illustrator.
In his professional career, Richard has worked with a great multitude of agencies, designers, toy companies, publishers, card companies, schools, large corporations, small shops, newspapers, and more.

In the Beginning

When Richard Cowdrey asked his Mom the question he gets at every school presentation, “When did I start drawing?”, she gave the same answer he had been giving for years: “I cannot remember a time when you weren’t drawing”.
